Live Streaming Etiquette: Avoid these 4 common live streaming mistakes

Now that your church is ready to start live streaming your services and events, it’s time to start thinking about live streaming etiquette. What are the do’s and don’ts of being on camera in front of a live audience?

Mistake 1: Poor lighting

An easy pitfall to avoid during your live stream is being over or under lit. An easy way to avoid this is by setting up your camera in front of a window with light, or in front of a different light source. We help our clients find the perfect spots to place our two PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras in their worship space so that lighting does not end up being a problem during your live stream.

Mistake 2: Ignoring audio quality

Your congregants attend your service because they want to be able to hear your message. A lot of people make the mistake of being too far or too close from the microphone, discouraging your viewers from watching a live stream with low quality audio. In order to improve this, make sure that you are using a good quality microphone that is near your audio source.

Mistake 3: No visuals

Our team recommends incorporating lower thirds, pre-recorded videos, or other graphics into your lives tream to keep your audience engaged. This might also make your services easier to follow for folks at home by allowing you to show lyrics for worship songs or bible passages alongside your live stream.

Mistake 4: Not interacting with your audience

Even though we are all separated due to stay-at-home orders, that doesn’t mean that you can’t interact with your congregation. Make sure that you are engaging with your congregants during a live service.
